Fourways karate collects eight medals

FOURWAYS – Fourways Martial Arts Academy represents Karate South Africa at the AUSC Region 5 championships held in Namibia, collecting 8 medals.


Karate South Africa national selectors embarked on an extensive selection process in March, travelling the country searching for talented karate stars to take part in the AUSC Region 5 Championships held in Namibia.

Eight athletes from Fourways Martial Arts Academy were chosen for the international showpiece hosted in Swartkopmund on the 22 to 25 May.

South Africa Sports Confederation and Olympic Committee recognised the Region 5 Championship as an official event of Karate South Africa and awarded the athletes with Protea colours. Seven countries were represented, including Angola, South Africa, Botswana, Zimbabwe, Mozambique, Zambia, and Namibia, with over 300 entries.

South Africa were the winners, with 31 gold medals, 25 silver, and 21 bronze. Botswana came second and third was Namibia.

• Thea Langenhorst – Gold for Kata

• Claudia Dobson – Gold for Kata

• Silvio Biagioni – Silver for Kata

• Aidan Zeeman – Silver for team kata

• Sven Langenhorst – Silver for team Kata

• Malcolm Driessel – Silver for team Kata

• Nuru Minyuku-Gutto – Bronze for Kumite
