Outreach programme in Fourways gives children the chance to dance

FOURWAYS – Kim Field of the Kim Fields Academy has sponsored a group of underprivileged dancers to join her students as they head to the New Prague Dance Festival in July.

Everyone deserves the chance to dance their hearts out, so the Kim Fields Academy on Kingfisher Road is giving the chance to underprivileged children.

The school sponsors an outreach programme which develops skills and hosting events for children from disadvantaged backgrounds. The owner of the school, Kim Field, is sponsoring a group of children aged between eight and 15 years to attend the New Prague Dance Festival this year. The festival takes place in the capital city of the Czech Republic and will be taking place from 6–12 July.

These underprivileged children will join the SA team, who auditioned and was chosen out of about a hundred students and are extremely talented. They will represent Kim Field Academy under the SA team at the International Dance Festival.

“These students have horrible living circumstances and live under the bread line. Some of these children do not even have parents to provide for them,” explained Zelda Roelofs of the Kim Fields Academy.

“Kim Field is giving them the opportunity to get professional dance training and the opportunity to dance on an international stage.”

Field is paying for their training, as well as an all-inclusive trip to Prague for the festival.

“Outreach to the local community and sharing the excitement of performing arts is an important part of our mission at Kim Field Academy,” Roelofs added.

“She is giving these children – the future of tomorrow – an opportunity of a life time to become the best possible version of themselves.”

In the two months leading up to the festival, the children will work and train hard to represent South Africa on an international stage, and the school hopes that their dancers will once again bring home the most trophies out of all the competing countries, which is what happened last year.

“This opportunity will change their lives in such significant ways,” Roelofs concluded.
