Seven gold medals for Taylin

CHARTWELL – Taylin Alberts from Steyn City School is making a splash in the world of competitive swimming after her recent success at the South African Regional Level 2 Championships.

Taylin Alberts is making a big splash in the world of swimming and walked away with seven gold medals during a recent competition.

The young swimmer is currently in Grade 8 at the Steyn City School and made her achievements during the South African Regional Level 2 Championships in Polokwane which were hosted in early April. Besides the seven gold medals she won during the competition, Taylin achieved a new personal best time and also qualified to compete in two events at the Level 3 Championships. Her recent successes come after the teen managed to complete the Midmar Mile in 28 minutes back in February.

During the regionals, Taylin managed to shave off 19 seconds during her individual medley race and 10 seconds off of the 100m fly race, an achievement her coach believes has to do with her hard work and passion for the sport. “I’ve been coaching Taylin since February,” explained Melissa Hemming, who talked to the Fourways Review about the young swimmer.

“During the championships she did very well with regards to pacing her races like we practised at training. Taylin finished every single race with amazing determination and swims with her heart.”

Looking forward, Hemming explained that Taylin’s goal for next year is to qualify and compete in the South Africa Junior National swimming competition in 2020, as well as preparing for the Central Gauteng Championships which will take place at the end of this year. “Taylin is a very talented swimmer and I am looking forward to working with her during the next season,” Hemming concluded.
