Upgrades to Leslie and Witkoppen roads well underway

LONEHILL – The upgrades to the Leslie and Witkoppen roads intersection is due to be completed by 30 May.


Motorists who regularly use the Leslie and Witkoppen roads intersection will have noticed the road upgrades taking place, initially reported in the Fourways Review.

Abland Property Developers of Magaliessig Ext 70 are currently busy with the upgrading of road and storm water drains on behalf of Gautrans and Johannesburg Roads Agency.

It is due to be completed by 30 May.

The upgrades will include the following:

• Road widening – the widening and construction of turning slip lanes on four sides of the intersection, and including six new islands

• Storm water upgrades – redirecting of existing storm water drainage where required

• Median widening to accommodate the additional lanes

• Existing service relocations, where required

• Construction and or reinstatement of sidewalks, and the inclusion of two bus shelters on Witkoppen Road

• Road marking and signage, as required

• The intersection will remain signalised (traffic

lights relocation).

Abland Property Developers also released a statement which read, “As it stands, the construction period is planned to take five months, and measures are being taken to control traffic at the intersection as far as possible.

“It is not foreseen that motorists would be required to take alternative routes, however, motorists are advised to adhere to the temporary road information signs, speed limits and reasonable care while driving through the intersection, during the course of the construction.”

Ward 93 councillor Candice James, expressed her excitement on the latest development of the upgrade. “Everything is on track and it should be finished by the end of May. The upgrades will make life easier for motorists to come in and out of the intersection.”
