MMC for Public Safety Michael Sun conducts Operation Buya Mthetho in Fourways

FOURWAYS – JMPD officers were deployed in Fourways to end lawlessness in the area.

MMC for Public Safety Michael Sun hosted an Operation Buya Mthetho in Fourways on 19 March.

The focus of the operation was on illegal parking, illegal hawkers as well as any other law infringements.

The MMC said they received countless complaints from residents about taxis parking on the road illegally.

“We have been receiving a lot of complaints from motorists. Taxis are just parking everywhere. They are making illegal u-turns which is a big risk for a potential accident,” said Sun.

A total of 29 JMPD officers were deployed to end lawlessness in the area. Hawkers’ belongings were confiscated by the officials.

Ward 94 councillor, David Foley echoed what Sun said, saying the taxi drivers are the main problem in the area.

“The taxis don’t park in allocated areas. In addition to hawkers supplying food to the taxi drivers, they constantly litter and people are complaining to me,” said Foley.

“People are parking on yellow lines. Taxis just drive through red robot at any time.”

The ward councillor has warned residents that lawbreakers will be dealt with harshly.

“The JMPD officials should be feared. They are not here to negotiate. People should know if they overstep the boundaries, they will face the consequences.”
