Diepsloot police urged motorists to exercise caution when driving along the N14 next to Diepsloot as there has been an upsurge in hijackings on this road.
“Motorists are warned not to stop along this road, as it is a hotspot for hijackings”, said Captain Tinyiko Mathebula, spokesperson for the station, in a statement released to the Fourways Review.
“Should motorists experience breakdowns while driving on this road, they should rather, if at all possible, drive to the nearest filling station for assistance,” the statement read.
“The modus operandi used by suspects involves alerting motorists of a flat tyre, and when they stop the suspects will point firearms at them and hijack them of their vehicles.
“We therefore emphatically urge all motorists never to stop along this road when asked to do so by unknown persons.”
He added that another modus operandi used by criminals involved the use of blue lights and sirens to stop motorists.
In some instances, suspects were seen wearing police uniforms.
“We further urge motorists to be cautious of suspects who are impersonating police officers but driving in unmarked vehicles. When ordered to stop by such persons, rather drive to the nearest police station or any filling station.”
Diepsloot police are intensifying patrols along this road to address these hijackings.
“We plead with motorists to report suspicious vehicles along this road by contacting Diepsloot police on 011 367 6300 or the Crime Stop number 08600 10111.”
