Caxton supports good cause

PAULSHOF – It was a chance for Fourways Review staff to show their hearts when the Caxton Cares team took part in the CANSA Shavathon hosted at Montecasino.

No one is safe from cancer’s reach and all of us have been affected by the disease in some way – either because we have received a diagnosis ourselves, or because we have watched someone we know and love face the uphill battle to health.

On 9 March the Fourways Review team, under the Caxton Cares banner, supported this fight by taking part in the second annual Montecasino Shavathon. Caxton volunteers helped fundraise for the Cancer Association of South Africa (Cansa) by spraying funky colours into participants hair, or by shaving the hair right off! The event was held at the promo stage near Skoobs and each donation made by participants (R50 for adults, R25 for children) was given to Cansa for the organisation’s unique, integrated service and holistic care and support for cancer survivors.

This was the 16th annual Cansa Shavathon to happen in South Africa and this year’s theme was #ColouringHope. Besides participating in the Shavathon members of the public could also support Cansa by buying bandanas, mugs, charm bracelets and T-shirts from the stage on the day.

“The Fourways Review feels strongly about supporting charity, especially Cansa,” explained branch manager Norman Dawe, who also participated on the day by allowing Caxton volunteers to his head and spray his goatee bright pink. “Everyone has been affected by this disease, so it was a wonderful chance for us to create awareness.”

The Caxton Cares banner is a chance for Caxton and the Fourways Review to play an important part in bettering the community.

“This is the second year Montecasino has hosted a Shavathon for the community, although we have always done so for the staff here,” explained Lisa Sukdev on behalf of the entertainment venue. “It’s great to play a part in the fight against cancer and shows that Montecasino does care about the community.”

The Shavathon began at Montecasino on 8 March and continued daily until 10 March. Besides the shoppers who supported Cansa at the venue, a number of local celebrities also visited on 9 March. Read page [] for more details.
