Motorists, expect to pay more on your car licence fee

Transport minister Blade Nzimande announced that car licence fees will increase by 14 per cent.

The Department of Transport announced that motorists can expect to pay more as the national transaction licensing fees will go up in 2019.

The increase was confirmed by Minister of Transport Blade Nzimande on 8 March, published in the Government Gazette. Motorists will be paying 14 per cent more to the Road Traffic Management Corporation (RTMC).

The department said the fees will increase by R10, from R72 to R82 for all renewable costs for all motor vehicles across the country. The car license fee is passed on to the applicant and added to the annual licence fee.

The implementation date was not provided and interested parties were given one month to comment on the increases.

In 2018, the increase was R30, from R42 to R72.
