NPO teaches useful skills
DIEPSLOOT – Afrika Tikkun, a non-profit organisation offers unemployed youth in under-privileged communities with training in the beauty and hair industry.
Afrika Tikkun, a non-profit organisation, recently completed an ethnic hair and beauty empowerment project in which 35 unemployed youth from Orange Farm and Diepsloot graduated from the programme.
The NPO, which was started in 1994 to empower township communities, aims to transform and uplift unemployed South African youth from underprivileged communities.
The organisation’s effort is to upkeep and offer qualified training to young people who are interested in the beauty and hair industry as a career path.
Two graduates from Diepsloot have already found employment at salons at Cedar Square and Nelson Mandela Square.
“The programme will definitely make a difference in communities since it will create employment opportunities for the unemployed youth, it will also reduce crime-related activities and fight poverty in the country,” marketing manager of the NPO, Linda Chauke said.
Chauke added that the project would keep young people off the streets and enable them to do something productive with their lives. The organisation is certain that every young person deserves an opportunity.
An opportunity to be the greatest they can be so the NPO is appealing to salon owners to make use of the services of these newly-qualified young women.
