Police officer retires after 34 years

SANDTON – After about 34 years of serving South Africans, Captain Fedile Kumalo has retired from the police.


There was joy and sadness at Sandton Police Station on 31 January as officers and staff said their goodbyes to veteran cop Captain Fedile Kumalo.

Kumalo retired from the South African Police Service after a total of 34 years.

She started her career in the municipal police in 1985. In 1994 after the municipal police were amalgamated into SAPS she started to work at Moroka Police Station in Soweto as a sergeant.

She worked at various police stations in Soweto and was then transferred to the Sandton police in 2004, where she worked in the human resource department and was responsible for personnel management.

She could not hold back her excitement at celebrating her farewell with her colleagues. The Station Commander, Brigadier Egen Moodley, thanked Kumalo for her hard work and dedication at the Sandton station.
