FOURWAYS – JMPD officers stopped a driver for transporting 17 passengers in a small bakkie.

Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) officers have impounded a tiny bakkie 06 February for being overloaded at William Nicol Dirve and Leslie Avenue in Fourways.

The bakkie had 17 passengers, two in front and 15 at the back. The driver was fined R1 700 for overloading and his vehicle was impounded.

“The bakkie has been impounded and he will have to pay R2 900 to get it [back]. For now, the vehicle is in the impound for verification,” said JMPD spokesperson Wayne Minnaar.

Johannesburg mayor, Herman Mashaba, thanked law enforcement officers for stopping the vehicle.

After the video was posted on Twitter, many Twitter users shared their unhappiness with the driver’s conduct. Some even called for the driver’s licence to be taken away.
