One person killed, 21 injured on Woodmead Drive

SUNNINGHILL – Local authorities were on the scene for further investigations.

One person was killed and 21 others injured on Friday evening, 25 January, after a minibus taxi rolled on Woodmead Drive in Sunninghill.

ER24 paramedics, along with other services, arrived on the scene just after 6pm and found the taxi laying on its side on the side of the road. Several passengers from the taxi were also found scattered around on the scene.

“Paramedics assessed the patients and found that one man had sustained numerous injuries and showed no signs of life,” said Russel Meiring, spokesperson for ER24.

“Nothing could be done for him and he was declared dead.”

It has been reported that the man who died at the scene was the driver of the minibus taxi.

According to Meiring, a further 21 patients were attended to on the scene. Assessments showed that the injuries ranged from minor to serious.

The patients were treated for their injuries and the seriously injured provided with advanced life support interventions. Once treated, the patients were transported to various hospitals for further care.

Local authorities were on the scene for further investigations.
