That’s a wrap on a successful fundraiser

BROADACRES – The Ark Animal Centre fundraiser which saw volunteers wrapping gifts outside the Broadacres Shopping Centre was a big success.

Ark Animal Centre spent 10 days at Broadacres Shopping Centre in Broadacres wrapping gifts for the Fourways community to raise funds during the festive season.

“As usual, the Fourways community embraced the initiative and Ark was able to exceed their expectations,” said Tracy Otto, a manager at the organisation.

“These much-needed funds are going to be used to build a section for some adult dogs to be able to be housed comfortably.”

As the centre is a puppy shelter, the facilities have not been suitable for larger breed adults. This new section will be able to house between six and nine adults and will be adapted to meet their physical and emotional needs.

“A huge thank you goes to Terry Zietsman for putting this initiative together – the hard work that goes into organising this event is immense and Terry put it together with such flair as well as Broadacres SPAR and Lifestyle Garden Centre for allowing us to put up stands outside their entrances – your help and co-operation was unbelievable. To volunteers who wrapped presents continually and gave of their time so selfishly, and to the public who supported us and made this initiative a success.”

Apart from financial gain, the donations of food and blankets received were fantastic but best of all was the awareness. Many people came through to the shelter to adopt. At least 20 adoptions were a direct result of this and lots of people visited the shelter to see what they do.

“A huge favourite was the pups [who accompanied the volunteer wrappers to the shopping centre each day]. All the pups that spent time at Broadacres have found homes.

“Teddy and Hayley who absolutely loved being mascots of Ark, and had hundreds of people fell in love with them, have both gone to their forever homes.”

Ark would like to thank each and every person that helped and supported them. They will be back next year.
