Nominations for chairperson, vice-chair and secretary for Sandton CPF Sector 4

SANDTON – The Sandton CPF sector will host an elective Annual General Meeting on 24 January.

The Sandton CPF is calling for nominations for the positions of a chairperson, vice-chair and secretary for Sector 4.

Sector 4 encompasses the areas of Buccleuch, Eastgate, Kelvin View, Kramerville, Marlboro North, Wendywood and Wesco Park.

An elective Annual General Meeting (AGM) is to be held on 24 January at 6.30pm, at Massimo’s Restaurant (previously Cesco’s) in the upstairs boardroom, 18 Southway Road, Kelvin, where voting will take place. The meeting is open to the public and nominations and voting will only be applicable to eligible persons.

The Sandton CPF relies on volunteers in order to fulfil its mandate of building a strong partnership between the community and the police and supporting law enforcement agents in the discharge of their duties.

The three vacancies on the Sandton CPF Sector 4 committee would be suitable for persons living or working within the sector.

The general public is welcome and encouraged to submit nominations that meet the selection criteria. Nominees are required to undergo police clearance in order to qualify – a straightforward process that takes place at the Sandton Police Station.

Sandton CPF chairperson Anthony Modena said they would like to thank Andrew McMurray, the outgoing chairperson of Sandton CPF Sector 4. “Andrew has been a pillar of the Sector 4 and Sandton communities for many years. He has played a key role in so many of our projects and initiatives and has given incredible amounts of his time and energy to the community.”

Modena said it is with much regret that they accepted McMurray’s resignation. “But we understand that even the most committed of volunteers need a break after so many years of service. He will be sorely missed.”

Nomination forms for all three vacancies may be obtained from Sandton CPF Liaison Officer Yogi Govender on 011 722 4317, Monday to Thursday, 9am to 2pm, or via email admin@sandtoncpf.co.za

The requirements of each position are as follows:

  • Chairperson: The chairperson must ensure that the committee functions properly with full participation from all committee members, that relevant matters are discussed at meetings and that effective decisions are made and carried out. This position requires strong leadership and a commitment to the safety of the Sandton community. Excellent community liaison skills and management experience will also be highly beneficial.
  • Vice-chairperson: The vice-chair position is also a leadership role, where the incumbent should have the skills and ability to stand in for the chairperson as and when necessary, such as presiding over meetings and attending functions. The vice-chair assists the chairperson in the discharge of all duties.
  • Secretary: This position requires strong secretarial and administration skills, attention to detail and the ability to interact at all levels. The role of sector committee secretary is crucial to the smooth and effective functioning of the committee and encompasses taking and distributing of minutes and assisting the chair and vice-chair in various aspects of their duties.
