Lucky escape for five people after car plunges off Witkoppen Road bridge on New Year’s Eve

FOURWAYS – ER24 paramedics attended the scene and found that the car's occupants sustained minor injuries only.

Five people had a lucky escape last night, 31 December, after they drove off the side of a bridge along Witkoppen road in Fourways and ended up upside down in the river.

This is according to a statement issued by ER24 spokesperson, Ross Campbell.

The statement further read, “All emergency services, including ER24, were on the scene just after 10pm, only to find that all five of the car’s occupants (three male and two female adults) had managed to free themselves from the half submerged wreak.

“Paramedics helped to walk them out from the river’s edge. They had sustained only minor injuries and were being treated on the scene at the time of our call.”

Campbell’s statement further said, “The exact circumstances surrounding the incident are unknown to ER24.”
