4Paws looks back on 2018

DIEPSLOOT – Tammy Lemmon of the 4Paws Animal Shelter sends a Christmas message and reflects on 2018.

Tammy Lemmon of the 4Paws Animal Shelter reflects on 2018:

2018 has been a pretty rough year as we have lost a lot of animals, especially dogs to parvovirus, most of whom came from the informal settlement and were already sick when we got them, meaning that they could not get the vaccine.

There have also been a lot of hit-and-run incidents, particularly in Diepsloot, as animals try to cross the N14 and get hit by cars, meaning that we have had to amputate a lot of legs.

We’ve also had a lot of older dogs surrendered to us to make way for puppies, which is heartbreaking.

In happier news: Thanks to the support and assistance of the people of Fourways, we have managed to undertake lots of vaccinations! We’ve also managed to sterilise hundreds of dogs, which is amazing!

At the shelter, we’ve been putting up corrugated sheeting to provide shade for the animals and also placed plants on the property to make the place look nice.

Thank you to everyone for supporting 4Paws in 2018!

We reopen on 7 January 2019.
