A charitable end to the year of 2018 for Crawford Lonehill Pre-primary

LONEHILL – The families of Crawford Lonehill Pre-Primary donated stationery to Tekane Kids and Dimphonyana Tsa Lapeng as their last outreach project for the year

Crawford Lonehill Pre-primary embarked on their final outreach for 2018 and collected donations for those in need.

This year, the Crawford outreach committee did a collection of stationery gift packs, which included watercolours, wax crayons, pencils, colouring in pencils, a ruler, an eraser, a jotted book, a pencil sharpener and a brown gift bag. “At Crawford Lonehill Pre-Primary we believe that art and creative play is an important part of expression and gives one the ability to dream and know that dreams can be a reality,” said Caroline Miller, principal of Crawford Lonehill Pre-Primary.

The stationery bags were created in hopes to give the underprivileged children an opportunity to experience creativity through art. They were sourced at R40 each and organisers at the school aimed to gift a complete bag to 105 children from both the Dimphonyana Tsa Lapeng in Olivenhoutbos and Tekane Kids In Bloubosrand.

Parents pledged for the names of the children by donating R40, they then received the plain brown gift bag which was taken home by their child to decorate and personalise for the recipient.

Thanks to the generosity from the school’s parents and children, the aim was met and all 105 children received a donation. On 5 December at 10am Caroline Libongani Ngwenya from Tekane Kids and Shalate Teffo from Dimphonyana Tsa Lapeng paid a visit to Crawford Lonehill Pre-Primary’s grounds.

Charoline Miller and deputy principal Jacqui Smallbone handed over the beautifully decorated bags.

Dimphonyana Tsa Lapeng is run by Shalate Teffo. It was founded in 2001 and is a project providing services such as a children’s home, early childhood development programme, skills development for unemployed youth, a community food garden and homework programme for the community of Olievenhoutbosch.

Takane Kids In Bloubosrand was founded in 2006. It currently accommodates children between the ages of two and 14. They also assist with special needs children and bridging the gap for children who have had no previous education. Tekane Kids provide their children with breakfast, lunch as well as a packed dinner meal.
