UPDATE: One killed, 32 injured in three-vehicle collision in Diepsloot

DIEPSLOOT – New information also says that a third vehicle was also involved in the crash.

Following an earlier report that stated one person died and another nine sustained injuries in a serious collision involving a light motor vehicle and a mini-bus taxi on the R511 in Diepsloot this afternoon, it has now come to light that there were more injuries.

According to the Russel Meiring, the spokesperson for ER24, one man was killed and 32 others were injured this afternoon following a collision between a minibus taxi and two light motor vehicles at the R511 and N14 Road intersection in Diepsloot.

Meiring said, “ER24 paramedics, along with several other services, arrived on the scene at 1.03pm to find the minibus on the side of the road while the two-light motor vehicles were found in the right-hand lane. Several people were found scattered around the scene.

“Local authorities began to close off the road while paramedics set up a triage area.

“On assessment, paramedics found that a man had sustained numerous injuries and showed no signs of life. Unfortunately, nothing could be done for him and he was declared dead.

“32 other patients were tended to on the scene, including two children. Assessments showed that their injuries ranged from minor to critical.”

Meiring added that paramedics treated the patients and provided the critically injured with advanced life support interventions.

“Once treated, the patients were transported to nearby hospitals for further care,” said Meiring.

“The details surrounding this incident are not yet known but local authorities were on the scene for further investigations.”

Earlier

Media liaison officer for Netcare 911, Shawn Herbst, said, ” At 12.53pm on Thursday afternoon, Netcare 911 responded to reports of a collision on the R511 in Diepsloot. Reports from the scene indicate that a mini-bus taxi and a light motor vehicle were involved in a collision.”

He added that all of the injured patients were treated on scene and transported by various ambulance services to hospital for further treatment.

“All necessary authorities were on scene.”
