Douglasdale police officer arrested for corruption

DOUGLASDALE – The Independent Police Investigative Unit said an accomplice, who is a sergeant based at the Douglasdale Police Station, managed to escape and a docket of escaping from custody has been registered.

The Douglasdale Community Policing Forum (CPF) posted on their Facebook page last night , 21 November, a media statement by the Independent Police Investigative Directorate (Ipid) that states a Douglasdale police officer was on Tuesday, 20 November, arrested for corruption.

The statement reads that a police constable, who is stationed at the Douglasdale Police Station, was arrested during a joint operation by Ipid and the Johannesburg Metro police for corruption.

The statement read, “It is alleged that on 20 November 2018, the complainant went to the JMPD [Johannesburg Metro Police Department] offices to report an extortion by police officers from Douglasdale Saps, who demanded R3 000 from him in return for not impounding his taxi and not arresting his taxi driver for allegedly parking the taxi on the street.

“An entrapment operation was arranged in line with the relevant prescripts. During the entrapment operation, a Constable was arrested for corruption and possession of unlicensed ammunition. An accomplice, who is a Sergeant based at Douglasdale Saps, managed to escape. A docket of escaping from custody has been registered.”

The suspect will appear at the Randburg Magistrates’ Court on 22 November on a charge of corruption.
