Death of 35-year-old cyclist at 947 Mountain Bike Challenge shocks cycling community
FOURWAYS – Since the news of his passing, members of the cycling community have expressed their condolences to Neil van Vuuren's loved ones.
A 35-year-old cyclist named Neil van Vuuren collapsed at the Telkom 947 Mountain Bike Challenge on Sunday, 11 November, before he was pronounced dead at Sunninghill Hospital in the emergency department.
According to EWN, paramedics from the scene said that he had suffered cardiac arrest. He was attempting to finish the 55-kilometre mountain bike race in Fourways.
Since the news of his passing, members of the cycling community have expressed their condolences to van Vuuren’s loved ones.
Race drector, Tanya Harford told EWN, “It is the first time in the mountain bike challenge we’ve had a rider pass away, it’s been a shock to our team and the family and we feel for them at this time.”
