Community lends a helping hand to Clay Oven Informal Settlement after fire

PAULSHOF – The spirit of giving is undoubtedly alive among community members in Fourways.

The Fourways community has come to the aid of the residents of Clay Oven Informal Settlement this weekend.

This is after a fire ripped through the Clay Oven Informal Settlement on Friday night and the early hours of Saturday morning.

As the Fourways Review reported on Saturday, one person died and two others were admitted to hospital for their burn wounds.

Gracepoint Church, based in Glenferness, sent out appeals for support on its Facebook page, along with the Douglasdale Community Policing Forum’s Sector 4.

On Saturday, Future City Fourways took to its Facebook page to describe the community’s show of support of the Clay Oven residents as ‘magnificent’.

Future City Fourways wrote on its Facebook page, “Within a short period of time donations of canned food, huge quantities of clothing, bedding and cushions, bottled water, baby formula and nappies, toilet rolls and sanitary pads, maize meal and so much more poured in, and the result was that three trips with a one tonne double cab bakkie (from the Lonehill Residents Association) pulling a one tonne trailer (from the enviro fund) had to be made to deliver all the aid. In volume six tonnes.”

Future City Fourways expressed thanks to ‘incredible Fourways’ and said that the disaster management teams were delighted that ‘a community cared so much for their fellow members’.
