Monica Ann Fourie publishes her first children’s book

BRYANSTON – Bryanston resident Monica Ann Fourie has published her first children's book 'Harold the British Bulldog' to educate children about dog ownership

Life-long animal lover and Bryanston resident, Monica Ann Fourie, has published her first children’s book about dog ownership.

Her book, Harold the British Bulldog was published by Austin Macauley Publishers and tells the story of Dylan, a man who decides to get a pet dog. Before he gets his new furry friend, Dylan does plenty of research and preparation on different breeds and what it takes to be a good dog owner. When Dylan is ready he adopts Harold, a British bulldog, who then has lots of adventures exploring his new home.

“I’ve always been an animal lover, I had so many pets growing up! British bulldogs are my favourite,” Fourie said.

“I have spent a lot of time with [the breed] and experienced their wonderful nature.

“This book is basically to teach children that pets are not just there but need a lot of care and that pet ownership does cost money. Not in a bad way, but more as a form of education. Although it was written for children, I think adults such as parents will enjoy reading it too.”

It took Fourie three years of hard work to write her book, which is currently only available online on Amazon (both the British and the American versions) as well as the Austin Macauley website.

“I’ve been wanting to write [a book] for a long time. Throughout my life, first in the corporate world and later in real estate, I always had a niggling to go into writing. I’d recommend this book to parents, grandparents and anyone looking for a gift to give a child. I think adults will also enjoy reading Harold with their children as well.”

Fourie is also writing a second children’s book at the moment.
