This week, the City of Johannesburg appeals for assistive devices for people with disabilities and 71 properties in the inner city are released to the private sector for developing affordable housing.
City Power’s new head of operations, Isaac Ramopedi, spoke to Randburg Sun about switching gears from reactive to proactive maintenance plans for the City’s power utility entity. “The biggest challenge is to normalise the electric network,” he said. “We have not done active maintenance in a long time and we are only in a reactionary mode, instead of being proactive.”
On 14 August, the Johannesburg Property Company launched the prospectus of 71 inner-city properties that will be up for development by the private sector. This was not an official tender release, but an overview of what will go up for tender soon. Over 200 key property players met with the City.
Finally, the social development department has called for assistive device donations needed to aid 3 500 people living with disabilities in Joburg. There is a great need for wheelchairs, walkers, crutches, prosthetic devices and other aids. Donations can be dropped off at the People with Disabilities office at room R12 820 on the second floor of the A Block at the Metro Centre at 158 Civic Boulevard in Braamfontein.
