Suspects cuffed in operations thought to be linked to Diepsloot crimes

DIEPSLOOT– Crime was recently curbed in the area. Read on to find out where.

As their bid to curb crime around policing precincts, the Johannesburg West Cluster officers recently arrested suspects in the area as a positive for Diepsloot with reports of few cases of child neglect.

“The operations included detective officers tracing wanted or identified suspects, visible policing members addressing crime through stop-and-searches, roadblocks and by-law enforcement,” the corporate communication at the cluster, Captain Makgowanyana Maja said.

According to Maja, the cluster officers and other law enforcement agencies embarked on various operations throughout the weekend in order to curb the scourge of crime around the policing precincts.

He explained that 143 suspects were nabbed for various crimes. “The suspects were arrested for armed robbery, being in possession of dagga, drugs, housebreaking implements, assault with intent to cause grievously body harm, and drunk and driving to mention few.”

Maja mentioned that in Diepsloot, a couple of cases of child neglect were registered whereby suspects were arrested in order to deal with the numerous cases which are reported of missing children.

“As police officers, we are appealing to the parents to make sure that they know their children’s whereabouts at all times. As much as everyone has rights enshrined in the Constitution of the country, and expected to uphold and respect those rights, children also have the right to be taken care of and nurtured in a humane manner.”

Cluster Commander Major General Johannes Pharasi thanked the members for their excellent work and encouraged them to continue working hard to curb crime and make people feel safe in the cluster.

Maja explained that all arrested suspects are expected to appear soon in the Roodepoort and Randburg Magistrates’ courts.

Community members are encouraged to report any suspicious activity, people and vehicles to 086 001 0111 or anonymously to 32211.
