Top story of the week: Bakkie and car collide leaving one dead, two injured on Cedar Road

FOURWAYS – Paramedics assessed the patients in the light motor vehicle and found that one man showed no signs of life while the other was in a critical condition.

A man was killed and two others injured on 25 July following a head-on collision between a bakkie and light motor vehicle on Cedar Road in Fourways.

ER24 paramedics, along with Life Healthcare and Provincial Services, arrived on the scene to find the bakkie and light motor vehicle in the left-hand lane of the road. Both vehicles had sustained a large amount of damage in the collision.

“Upon closer inspection, paramedics found two men lying trapped inside the light motor vehicle,” said Russel Meiring, spokesperson for ER24.

“A woman was found seated inside the bakkie while the male driver was found walking around on the scene.”

Paramedics assessed the patients in the light motor vehicle and found that one man showed no signs of life while the other was in a critical condition.

Fire services quickly used specialised equipment to free the two patients. Once freed, paramedics initiated CPR and advanced life support interventions. The man was transported to a nearby hospital for urgent treatment.

The woman from the bakkie was assessed and found to be in a serious condition. The patient was treated and provided with advanced life support interventions before she was transported to a nearby hospital.

The male driver of the bakkie fortunately escaped injury.

The details surrounding this incident are not yet known but local authorities were on the scene for further investigations.
