Water woes in Douglasdale

DOUGLASDALE – Residents in Douglasdale have been without water since 17 July due to a labour issue affecting the Zandfontein Depot.

Residents who live on Glenluce Drive in Douglasdale have been without water for days due to a labour dispute at Joburg Water’s Zandfontein Depot.

According to Arlene Cadman, who lives in one of the complexes on the road, the water went off on 17 July in the late afternoon. “I’ve been struggling to find out what happened and when the water will come back on,” she said.

“At first I was fine, as millions of people do live like this daily, but it’s been a struggle. I’ve been using water from the pool and we’ve been drinking only bottled water. It’s just frustrating not knowing what’s going on.”

When contacted by Fourways Review, Joburg Water said they were aware of the problem in the area. They confirmed that there was a labour dispute at the depot.

A statement released by the water utility read, “The matter is being attended to by the employer and the labour unions at this moment, and private contractors have been sourced to attend to all water and sanitation services in all affected areas.

“We are currently dispatching water tankers to Lonehill, Gallo Manor, Paulshof and Morningside Manor.”
Joburg Water urges the community to report all suspicious activities around Joburg Water infrastructure by contacting the call centre on 011 375 5555.

Residents are also urged to continue to report all burst pipes, leaking water meters, open hydrants and other issues on 011 375 5555, SMS 082 653 2143, www.johannesburgwater.co.za or customer@jwater.co.za
