Singing Diepsloot schools achieve

RIVERSANDS – Find out which schools won and the prizes they received.

The auditorium at Riversands Incubation Hub rang with the sound of over 100 schoolchildren singing in unison at the second annual Diepsloot Choir Festival recently.

The competition was hosted by the Diepsloot Youth Programme, a non-profit organisation that has been working in Diepsloot for over eight years with the mission of uplifting Diepsloot youth to bring about a brighter future.

Diepsloot Secondary 3 won the high school trophy and R10 000 in cash, which they will be spending on a trip to the theatre and new costumes for the choir.

Leap School and Diepsloot Combined School won second and third place respectively.

Paradise Primary School took home the primary school trophy, R10 000 in cash and a school trip to the theatre.

Akani Primary and Reshomile Primary took home second and third place respectively.

The judges included a number of experienced and competent adjudicators including the head of music at Reddam House Helderfontein, Patti van der Ploeg, music director at Steyn City and judge at the national eisteddfod, Pippa Clegg Proctor, and award-winning contemporary dancer, choreographer and facilitator, Sonia Radebe to name a few.
