#DouglasdaleCPF updates the community on the organisation’s future plans

DOUGLASDALE – After a number of meet-and-greets were held in each sector for the community to engage with the organisation, the Douglasdale CPF is looking towards its future.

After a month-long effort to host meet-and-greet sessions across its four sectors, the Douglasdale Community Policing Forum (CPF) held a final meeting this month (June) to update the community on the organisation’s future.

At the beginning of the meeting, Neil Hays said, “Following our AGM [Annual General Meeting] a few months ago, we decided to hold meet-and-greets in Sector 1, Sector 2, Sector 3 and Sector 4”.

Since Advocate Jean Berdou stepped down from the position earlier this month, Hays has taken over as the interim chairperson for the forum.

“This meeting tonight is a final, collective meeting for community members who wanted to, but couldn’t, attend any of the other meet-and-greets,” said Hays.

Present on the evening were a number of residents from the area, members of the policing forum from all sectors, ward councillors, officers from the Douglasdale Police Station and members of the Metropolitan police. The meeting was hosted in the auditorium of the Indaba Hotel on William Nicol Drive.

After a brief update on the meet-and-greets and the organisation in general, the floor was opened for public questions and comments. Thabo Thipe, a community police relationship coordinator from the Gauteng Department of Community Safety, was also present to answer any questions on the forum’s constitution or other procedural matters.

He told the crowd, “Issues like the formation of the youth desk will be dealt with when the CPF is up and running”.

Regarding the future of the forum, Hays said that a few matters needed to be sorted out in the coming months, such as the formation of the leadership of Sector 2, which had been affected by members moving out of the area.

“Once these matters are sorted out, we’ll be able to hold an AGM and vote in the executive committee, as there is an interim committee at the moment,” Hays concluded.

It is hoped that this vote will take place mid or late July.
