Community members enjoy a movie under the stars at Norscot Recreational Centre
NORSCOT – The movie night was a fundraiser to support a number of projects they have in the area.
Community members braved a winter’s evening for a good cause as they enjoyed The Greatest Showman movie under the stars at Norscot Recreational Centre.
According to Fourways’ Main Reef Rotary Club, Cynthia Lewis, the movie night was a fundraiser to support a number of projects they have in the area. “These projects are soccer clubs in Diepsloot, Shumbashaba horses, healing people in Diepsloot and a new project they have in Bloubosrand. We need money in order to support all these projects hence we have this fundraising evening today.”
Lewis explained that although it was difficult to think of an estimate, they were hoping to raise between R8 000 to R10 000 that evening. “The money will be decided upon by our committee on how to split it up amongst the various projects depending on the needs that have.”
She highlighted that the fundraiser was to create interest within the community and to build those in need. “We have a lot planned for the year as we have a horse race event in August as well as a high tea. We plan to host another movie night in three months’ time if this one turns out to be a success.”
Stephen Margo, public relations officer for the district and a member of the Rotary Club stated that they were trying something different hence they are hosting a movie night.
“We have a number of fundraisers and from time to time and because we get the land free of charge when they host their meetings, we plan to give some of the money back to the centre, which will be used towards the maintenance of the premises.”
