ICYMI: Bryanston Sports Club to host potjiekos and sport day

BRYANSTON – Why not play racquetball before enjoying a great potjiekos in Bryanston?

Included in Bryanston Sports Club’s annual Family Fun Day will be a racquetball challenge.

As if bowls, tennis, and a potjiekos competition were not enough, the club aims to bring even more fun to the day by letting community members try out this growing sport on its squash courts.

“Racquetball is a fast-growing sport that is fun, fast and suitable for players of every level,” said Bryanston Squash Club chairperson, David Liao.

The sport can be played on squash courts and uses similar rules to squash, but the rackets are shorter and balls are bouncier.

Come 26 May, enthusiasts above the age of 12, whether fit or not, can try out the game in matches that last six minutes.

“The tournament is based on what we call a bells format, which enables players of all levels to play against each other for games that last six minutes each. Players then rotate or take a break, and afterwards, we’ll have a prize-giving before encouraging everyone to join in more fun at the club’s annual potjiekos competition.”

The tournament starts at 10am.

The club will provide the racquets, balls and lights, so all people need to bring is a pair of non-marking takkies.

“The great thing about racquetball is that it’s easy to play, you have a good run-around and it’s not at all harsh on the body. Entry is free and we would really like to see lots of people attend.”
