Fighting crime in Fourways

FOURWAYS – The Douglasdale police along with other safety stakeholders in the area carried out an operation on 18 May as part of a campaign to address crime in the area.

The Douglasdale Police Station, in conjunction with a number of other stakeholders, is trying to address crime in the community.

On the night of 18 May, the police in partnership with the Sector 4 Community Policing Forum, neighbourhood watches for the area and a number of security companies (including Fidelity, Guardians, Mightguard, OnArmor, Obed, RSS, SCS Security and TRSS), handed out pamphlets to passing motorists on the corner of Main and Robin roads in Fourways.

The pamphlets warned that the area was a smash-and-grab hotspot.

“We get numerous reports of smash-and-grab incidents along this stretch of road,” said Guido Ceruti, who is the head of the neighbourhood watch for Sector 4.

“We at the neighbourhood watch try and be the eyes and ears in the area to watch out for crime.”

According to Captain Len Celliers, sector commander at the Douglasdale police, about 1 000 pamphlets were handed out to motorists.

The police urge residents to adhere to the following safety measures while driving:

  • be aware of what areas are crime hotspots
  • vehicles should be locked at all times
  • windows should be closed at all times
  • do not use your cell phone while driving
  • keep valuables out of sight inside your vehicle to avoid being a target
  • be vigilant at all times while you travel.
