Joint operation sees the arrests of 179 suspects

DOUGLASDALE – The Douglasdale police in conjunction with Joburg West Cluster recently arrested 179 suspects for various crimes.

 

As their way of eradicating crime in the area, Douglasdale police, in a joint operation with Joburg West cluster, recently arrested 179 suspects from different parts of the cluster.

According to head of communications for the Douglasdale Police Station Captain Mpho Tshetlhane, the arrests took place in Douglasdale, Randburg, Roodepoort, Linden, Florida, Diepsloot and Honeydew.

She said the arrests covered various crimes – murder, rape, possession of dangerous weapons, drunk driving, possession of drugs, assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, fraud, theft, shoplifting, possession of suspected stolen motor vehicles, recklessness and negligent driving and public drinking.

“The police also recovered the following during a joint operation that was held at Roodepoort on illegal mining: 51 phandukas [instrument used by illegal miners], 39 stampers [handmade compressors], six washing basins with gold concrete sand, 82 balls, six 11,5kg gas bottles, a pickaxe, 29 bags of gold concentrate, two black pots, four rubbish bins, 20 stamper pots [part of the compressors] and 900kg of cable,” she said.

“We would like to thank members of the community for the good working relationship and encourage them to keep on working together with the police in the fight against crime.

Tshetlhane said the suspects are set to appear in Randburg and/or Roodepoort Magistrates’ Court soon.
