Gauteng Opera fundraiser a singing success

MAGALIESSIG – The fundraiser recently hosted at the Merrow Down Country Club in support of the Gauteng Opera managed to raise a whopping R41 000 and the performers will be back in the greater Fourways area again soon.

The special opera performance hosted on 6 April at the Merrow Down Country Club in Magaliessig in support of the Gauteng Opera has been a singing success, with tens of thousands of rands raised for the opera organisation.

The show was organised in support of the Gauteng Opera which had to close its doors at the end of March.

The event saw six performers and an accompanying pianist put on a show at a sold-out venue.

Organiser Vera Harvey said about R18 000 had been raised in ticket sales and a further R3 000 in donations, totalling

R21 000. Further donations after the event had increased that figure to R41 000.

“We are extremely grateful for the donations and appreciate the efforts of our supporters,” said Arnold Cloete, the chief executive officer for Gauteng Opera.

“The money will be a great help to us. There’s also a strong possibility that we will hold another performance at the Waterfall Hills Mature Lifestyle Estate in the future, although this has not been confirmed yet. That performance is planned for some time next month and is a direct result of the Merrow Down Country Club [event].”
