It’s the month of love and Unity College is adding more meanings to the language of love.
At their Valentine’s assembly on 16 February, the youngsters from Mr Sibanda’s class presented what hearts, as related to Valentine’s Day, meant to them.
“Each phase of the school hosts assembly on a Friday… Our counsellor assisted our learners to understand the meaning behind the ‘heart’ associated with Valentine’s Day,” said Michelle Kirk, Unity College’s marketing officer.
The youngsters created posters that consisted of a heart and the associated meaning of love attached to the heart. Student, Sarah McGill created a poster detailing her love of nature and the outdoors, while Nkosana Mvuyana expressed his growing love for his siblings.
The children’s posters were just one of the many examples of the ways love and creativity can be expressed, especially in the month of love.
In addition to the Valentine’s Day assembly, youngsters were treated to a Valentine disco giving them the opportunity to socialise and build their confidence.
“The dance-off is a friendly dance-off between the three phases to see who is tops per phase, top boy and girl per phase. It’s fun and not too serious and helps build cohesion among all. I’m not sure if the teachers or children love it more,” Kirk added.
