‘Amateur’ house robber to spend three years in prison

JOBURG – 21-year-old sentenced to three years' imprisonment for house robbery.

The Alexandra Magistrates’ Court sentenced a 21-year-old man to three years’ imprisonment for housebreaking and theft.

In handing down the sentence, Magistrate Renier Boshoff told the convicted that there were no shortcuts to success in life.

Boshoff told the accused that he had to work his way up to achieve anything that he wanted.

According to the Boschoff, evidence led by the state suggested that the thief’s conduct was amateurish. The convicted was arrested on 27 November last year in Bramley. He was found by the homeowner who immediately contacted police who arrived shortly.

While waiting for police, the accused did not attempt to run away. In his possession, the accused was found with clothes stolen from the house and food items.

Boshoff also noted that the accused did not waste the court’s time. He pleaded guilty to the charges laid against him. On top of the three years’ imprisonment, the convicted was sentenced to a further eight years’ imprisonment which is wholly suspended for five years provided that he is not found guilty of the same crimes he has previously committed.
