STEYN CITY – Read what took place at the first day of school at Steyn City School.

With a heartbreaking wave goodbye to their parents, excited schoolchildren entered the newly built classrooms of Steyn City School, as it officially opened its doors for the first time.

Yusuf Stevens, excited parent to Grade 1 Adam said, “I have two boys, aged six and four, and one is in Grade 1 and the other in Grade 00. I feel very excited and nervous at the same time that both my boys are starting school for the first time but what is most assuring is that they are excited as the school looks amazing.”

Another parent Thembi Chagonda said she was thrilled that her child was attending a brand new school. “I feel very excited that my son will be attending Grade 6 here at this new school as it has state of the art equipment… so I am looking forward to an exciting six years to come for him.”

Portia Millar’s child Christian who is starting Grade 6 said, “I am very excited that my son and his fellow schoolmates are actually pioneers of this school as it has state of the art technology and equipment.”

The school opened its doors to the primary and high school phase.

The school’s principal, Brian Mitchell said, “To have this school officially opened to the children, to have it alive and exciting makes this the most exciting day of my life which makes me feel quite emotional.”

Mitchell added that what he found special about the school was that it had the largest playground in the country and they could allow the schoolchildren to move beyond the gates of the school into a safe environment.

“The facilities of this school are beyond belief and the investment that has gone into education is astounding. That to me is amazing. It is really an honour to be working for such a school of this magnitude.”
