It has been reported that the head of Gauteng Department of Health, Dr Barney Selebano, has resigned. This follows the controversial Life Esidimeni hearings in which Dr Selebano admitted that he approved unethical decisions. He approved the transfer of Life Esidimeni patients to unregistered NGOs where 140 of them died.
Twitter was not short of opinion to the news of Dr Selebano’s resignation:

@iamthabomdluli Dr Selebano shouldnt be exonorated from any criminal charges against him should be found guilty based on his resignation #POWERDrive

For those who are confused, the resignation of Dr Barney Selebano by no means is not a free ticket from being held accountable. The Esidimeni Arbitration continues & parallel investigations by law enforcement agencies continue. This just means that he wont be fired by the dept.

And now there's a call from some amongst us calling for the good doctor #DrSelebano to be criminally chargee and arrested. But C'mon the guy has apologized & did the right thing in resignation. #LifeEsidimeni
