Head-on collision leaves one dead, approximately 15 others injured in Diepsloot

DIEPSLOOT – Paramedics treated the patients and provided the two critically injured with advanced life support interventions.

One man was killed and approximately 15 others injured this morning, 9 January, following a collision between a taxi and bakkie on Summit Road in Diepsloot.

ER24 paramedics, along with other services, arrived on the scene to find the wrecked taxi in the middle of the road. The bakkie was found lying on its side on the side of the road.

Upon closer inspection, paramedics the body of a man, believed to be the taxi driver, lying a few metres away from his vehicle. Unfortunately, the man had already succumbed to his injuries.

Nothing could be done for him and he was declared dead.

Approximately 15 other patients were found at the scene. Two were found in a critical condition while the remaining patients had sustained minor to moderate injuries.

Paramedics treated the patients and provided the two critically injured with advanced life support interventions. Once treated, one critically injured patient was airlifted to Lenmed Randfontein by the ER24 Oneplan Helicopter. The second patient was airlifted by a private helicopter to a nearby hospital.

The remaining patients were transported by ambulance to nearby hospitals for further treatment.

The exact cause of the collision is not yet known but local authorities were on the scene for further investigations.
