Last call for Fourways residents to bring teddy bears for less fortunate children

FOURWAYS – As the soft toy drive at Fourways Crossing enters its final week, members of the community, businesses and everyone else are encouraged to give Botshabelo Babies Home a Christmas to remember. Find out how you can play your part here!

This is the last call for residents to make a bear-y big difference to a needy child’s life this Christmas.

The toy donation drive is organised by Fourways Crossing Shopping Centre in partnership with the Fourways Review and is now in its final week.

The community is encouraged to donate a new or preloved soft toy to the initiative before time runs out.

All the plush toys collected will be given to a Midrand centre that cares for disadvantaged children in order to brighten up their Christmas.

“We have chosen the Botshabelo Babies Home as our charity recipient,” explained Larissa Pillay, marketing manager for the centre. “That organisation does a lot of good work and we thought they could use a helping hand.”

Botshabelo, a non-profit organisation which has been running for more than 16 years, uplifts more than 600 beneficiaries each year through their babies home, preschool and teacher training programmes.

“We want to give an underprivileged child something that they may not have – a teddy to call their very own and that they don’t have to share with others. We want them to have something special this Christmas.”

Eleen du Buisson of Caxton Publishing said, “When she was contacted by Fourways Crossing about the drive, she knew that the cause was a good one and was badly needed in order to bring joy to children’s lives.

“We are all blessed, and we don’t realise that there are plenty of children who aren’t as blessed as us. Your child’s secondhand teddy, which they don’t treasure as much anymore, could make a world of difference in another child’s life.”

Du Buisson also appealed to local businesses to get involved in the initiative as while private individuals can only do so much, businesses have the capacity to take the donation drive to a whole new level.

“I would really encourage businesses to come out and join us [in this drive], because you can achieve so much more than any one person can do on their own.

“Please send us a picture of you dropping off your contributions as we would love to say a big thank you for your involvement.”

Donations can be dropped off inside the giant wire bear on display at the shopping centre up until 17 December, and Botshabelo will receive their new fluffy friends at the handover on 18 December.”
