Children from Diepsloot enjoy a day with Montecasino’s Birds Gardens

MAGALIESSIG – Read how children of Diepsloot commemorated World Aids Day.

In a bid to commemorate World Aids Day, 120 children and 12 caregivers and volunteers from InnerCity Mission non-profit organisation in Diepsloot spent their Sunday afternoon, on 3 December at Montecasino Bird Gardens.

The operations director of Nashua Children’s Charity Foundation (NCCF), Helen Fraser said, “Providing for their needs is imperative, but the treats are equally as important, and we could not provide these outings and treats without generous sponsors such as Montecasino Bird Gardens and its many partners who have made this day so special for 120 truly needy children. We thank you for caring and helping us make a difference to these youngsters’ lives.”

Due to daily disadvantages that the children from Diepsloot face, the InnerCity Mission is committed to improving the safety and protection of children by providing comprehensive care and access to social services and psychosocial support as well as restoring their sense of dignity.

Aged between four and 17 years, the children were greeted with a festive party atmosphere, jumping castles, face painters and Bird Garden mascots, as well as enjoying the Flight of Fantasy Bird Show.

The children learnt about 180 bird species from around the world, as well as various fascinating reptiles, amphibians, and smaller mammals.

General manager of Montecasino, Mike Page explained that his far-reaching CSI activities are focused primarily on Diepsloot. “With Diepsloot located on Montecasino’s doorstep, being able to give disadvantaged children from our community such wonderful and memorable experiences is a privilege, particularly on a day that highlights the need to unite in the fight against HIV and show support for those living with the disease.”
