JUKSKEI PARK – Department of Roads and Transport talks about a bridge along Witkoppen Road. Read more...

A concerned Fourways resident, Richel Heitmuller told Fourways Review that the road near the bridge on Witkoppen Road close to Pritchard Street in Jukskei Park, which was rebuilt in 2014 after it collapsed in 2013, is starting to sink again.

She said, “As you cross over the bridge heading north on Witkoppen Road, the road is sinking in badly from the left lane into the right lane.

“Previously the repairs took months as the contractor said they wanted to make sure the new design does not sink away like the other one but here we are again.”

In a response to this newspaper’s questions, the Gauteng Department of Roads and Transport spokesperson, Sipho Tshabalala said, “It has been discovered that there is sagging on a particular section of the road surface that needed attention.

“Tests are being carried out to determine the cause of the sagging. The results thereof will determine the next course of action to resolve the problem,” he said.

He added that the department appealed for understanding and patience at this point from residents and is no need for panic as the problem is not major to warrant closure of the road or bridge.
