Black Lab rescued from side of road

FOURWAYS – Labrador puppy rescued by security company.

A black Labrador puppy was rescued after a man attempted to sell him on the corner of Cedar and Witkoppen roads.

According to PMW/H64 Security’s operations director (who wished to remain anonymous), they received a call on one of their security groups about a man selling a puppy on the street. “We were first to respond to the scene,” he said.

“We apprehended the man who was selling the puppy and an inspector of the SPCA was contacted by our control room who then responded and took the puppy to the [Douglasdale] SPCA.”

He added that officers from the security company took the suspect to the Douglasdale Police Station. “I do not take too kindly to animal cruelty or people selling puppies on the street, as the puppy was hungry and dehydrated when we rescued it. Such cruelty needs to stop.”

He confirmed that the puppy was in good health and was named Cedar. “He is doing great and will be up for adoption in December.”

ER24’s communications officers, Russel Meiring said, “Our paramedic, Keely-Ann Jackson, was driving with her partner on Witkoppen Road when they received a message on a WhatsApp group, informing them that a man was selling a puppy on the side of the road.”

Meiring added that Jackson and her partner proceeded to the intersection where they found the man with the puppy. “The man, who had been trying to sell the young animal was then taken into custody by local security, while Keely took and consoled the puppy. Fortunately, the puppy did not sustain any injuries,” Meiring said.

Jackson added that Cedar has made friends with another puppy who is sharing the same cage. “The inspector at the SPCA explained that he will check with the kennel manager as to when exactly Cedar will be up for adoption and will let Fourways Review know,” she said.

The Douglasdale Police Station’s communications officer, Captain Mpho Tshetlhane said she was unaware of the incident but would confirm once she has obtained more information.
