WATCH: Red for healthy hearts

Life Fourways Hospital in Fourways turned red to raise awareness for World Heart Day. Click here see how the hospital building becomes red

Life Fourways Hospital turned bright red for World Heart Day on 29 September.

Jane Lamprey, marketing manager at Life Fourways Hospital said the World Heart Federation requested that all iconic buildings and statues across the globe be lit up in red to create awareness about heart health.

“Because of our relationship with the Heart and Stroke Foundation South Africa, who recently opened a Gauteng office in Life Fourways Hospital, we decided to light up our building as well,” said Lamprey.

She added that Life Fourways implemented a cardiac excellence programme to emphasise heart awareness month.

The Life Fourways Hospital staff members are proud of their building that turns red at night.

With the help of its cardiac team, the hospital has initiated a number of clinical interventions, based on international best practice, in its cardiac unit. According to a statement issued by the hospital, these interventions have been proven to significantly reduce the incidence of death in patients who have suffered heart attacks. The interventions also ensure that these patients are given the best possible chance of survival and a full recovery.
