Original report, 2 October, 10.12am
Three of the police officers that were arrested on 28 September following allegations that they were en route to commit an armed robbery at a cellphone store in Fourways Mall will make their first appearance in court this morning (2 October).
The three officers were stationed at the Douglasdale Police Station.
The three, together with five accomplices were arrested following a joint intelligence-driven operation, which foiled the commissioning of the alleged crime.
Gauteng Provincial Commissioner, General Deliwe de Lange has expressed disappointment in the conduct of the arrested police officers but commended those officers for arresting their own.
“While the arrest of our own is a slap in the face of the police service, it is at the same time commendable that they were arrested by courageous officers who are committed to fighting crime, even if that means putting behind bars our own members,” said De Lange.
This is a developing story and updates will be provided.
