A day in the sun for GDA

FOURWAYS – The SA Guide-Dogs Association for the Blind held a successful and fun-filled market, to celebrate canines and what they mean to people.

SA Guide-Dogs Association for the Blind (GDA) held a fun-filled market on its premises in Paulshof and brought the community together in more ways than one.

The day was packed with fun events and activities. There were various market vendors and delicious food and drinks to choose from.

Moe Ebrahim, a community member who brought his family to enjoy the day of fun with his dogs who he described as his best friends

Pieter van Niekerk, head of public relations for the association was happy to tell Fourways Review of the immense difference his guide dog has made in his life. “My dogs have given me mobility, independence and a great deal of dignity.”

Councillor Candice James, along with her two daughters and husband, enjoyed the day as well. James said the day was a perfect family outing and the perfect way to celebrate your canine ‘babies’.

The day brought laughter and fun with three-legged races, blindfold races, egg-and-spoon races, puppy races and various canine demonstrations. The favourite was the puppy race as all the puppies bolted into the crowd and the trainers found themselves in a bit of a race themselves bringing the crowd to fits of laughter.

The community and the dogs were equally happy to stroll through the vendors.

The blindfold race is definitely a funny favourite on the day.

Novels and other books SA Guide-Dogs Association sells at the market.

Juliette Powel said, “We at S A Guide-Dogs Association for the Blind rely on things like market days for awareness as well as to showcase our facility to the public.

“It was a fantastic family day out and I would like to thank everyone who attended this event, as well as our vendors showcasing their products.” She said they are already planning a market day for February next year and everyone is invited.
