Leeuwkop celebrates women who serve and protect

The women who work at Leeuwkop Prison celebrated Women’s Month on 31 August with a variety of fun activities which included prayer, aerobics, a fun run and a lovely spring lunch with a lot of laughter.

Women’s Month is commemorated in South Africa in August as a tribute to the thousands of women who marched to the Union Buildings on 9 August 1956 in protest against the extension of pass laws to women.

The spokesperson for Leeuwkop Prison, Sanku Thsuke said, “We are happy to host a day that celebrates the women of Leeuwkop. They work hard and dedicate their lives to serving. I just hope they felt special and enjoyed the day.”
