Concerns over Fourways Mall’s plans to relocate its lake

FOURWAYS – Ursula Armitage in Fourways would like to bring the community's attention to some concerns with the planned relocation of Fourways Mall's lake.

Ursula Armitage from Fourways writes:

We recently heard the unfortunate news that Fourways Mall plans to relocate its present lake.

They plan to move it to a location 100m away, an area of dense bush and trees, home to an abundance of birds and small animals, which is next to the office park on Fourways Boulevard.

Apparently, an environmental study will be undertaken. However, this pertains mainly to the improvement of the riverbed that runs past the Fairfield Estate.

It appears that no consideration is being given to the thousands of animals’ lives that will be affected if their homes are destroyed, with plans for the whole area of trees and plant life to be cut down.

This densely treed area in the new location is home to thousands of birds, and this is our prime objection to the relocation of the dam.

Contact is awaited to be advised of a meeting to be held, however, the altering of the river is already in progress in the park outside the Fairfield Estate

The loss of life would be excessive and this lake relocation needs to be stopped in its tracks. Fourways used to be such a beautiful area ….it is now a concrete jungle eyesore!

Councillor for Ward 94, David Foley, is monitoring the situation and has requested that all interested and affected parties should contact the below representative in order to be kept informed of proceedings:
