FOURWAYS – Find out what Cubs and Scouts from the 1st Bryanston Group have been up to.

In support of Mandela Day, Cubs and Scouts from the 1st Bryanston Group visited the Fandis informal settlement in Fourways.

Silvia Ludwig, the event organiser and an adult leader of the group said, “[I] was humbled by the generosity shown by the families which participated in the visit, and am proud that the Scouts were able to contribute something meaningful to a community in need.”

While the Cubs entertained the local children with games and fun activities, some of the older Scouts and parents tackled some of the most pressing problems facing the small community creche and the adjacent soccer field.

All the accumulated litter in the area was cleared and a skip was hired to remove it. The goal posts on the soccer field were repaired and replaced and a few wooden benches were installed alongside the field.

The children from the Cubs and Scouts group also brought along donations of food, clothing and garden tools for the community.

Spokesperson for the group, Gary Pienaar said it was important for them to support the Mandela Day initiative as service to the community was a key element in the Scouting programme.
