The City of Johannesburg’s greening entity, City Parks and Zoo, scooped two awards at this year’s Cannes Lions Festival in France for their creative advertising.

The festival, held on 24 June, honoured the world’s best brands of the year.

The winning advertisements were part of the entity’s series entitled Frog, Snake, Bat and Bird.

The conservation projects series shows what other species would thrive if another dies. The Frog advertisement reads: If one leopard frog dies, another species thrives. This advertisement depicts hundreds of flies outlining a silhouette of a frog.

The first bronze award received was for the outdoor billboard and street posters category, and the second award was for the outdoor public sector campaign category.

MMC for Community Development, Nonhlanhla Sifumba, congratulated the entity and said it is was remarkable achievement proving that City Parks and Zoo and the City of Johannesburg can compete with the best in the world.

“Well done to the management and entire team. You have put Joburg as one of the destinations of choice through this achievement,” said Sifumba.

Furthermore, two of the entity’s parks were recently crowned with four awards for its benchmark and high industry standard.

The two parks, Boston Park and the upgraded Westdene Park, both received two awards from the South African Landscapers Institute.
