Douglasdale police arrest three suspects for robbery and possession of a dangerous weapon

DOUGLASDALE – Douglasdale police have arrested three suspects on charges of robbery and possession of a dangerous weapon.

The Douglasdale police are investigating a case of armed robbery after three suspects, two men aged 32 and 29, and a woman aged 26, were arrested.

On 27 June, at about midnight, a 19-year-old man had left work and was hitchhiking along Witkoppen Road to go home when a white Toyota Corolla stopped to give him a lift. When they reached Bloubosrand, the vehicle stopped and one of the passengers allegedly took out a knife and robbed the hitchhiker of his cash, tablet and wristwatch.

Police officers who were patrolling, stopped the vehicle and searched all the passengers and recovered the victim’s belongings, including the knife that was used to rob him. It is unclear whether the victim was still in the car at this point.

The suspects appeared in the Randburg Magistrates’ Court on 29 June and police investigations are continuing.

The Douglasdale police appeal to members of the community who might have also been victims of these suspects to come forward or contact them on 011 699 1333.
